Yay for watercolor pencils! What a fun media, and you're great with it. Nicely chosen pose, and great job with all of the coloring. I like how rich the colors look, especially the pink feathers on the tail and head.
Thank you so much! And I finally remembered not to delete the comment before I added you today I actually liked playing with these watercolor pencils so much that I bit the bullet and ordered the biggest set I could find (120) from blick as a yay-you-found-a-job present to myself. Since I have been using the "cheap" pencils I am really excited to have a higher quality set on the way.
I have several sets of watercolor pencils, but I don't really do much art any more. My favorites are my Staedtler Karat Aquarelles even though they don't come in many colors (up to 60, but Blick appears to carry only up to 36).
I got this set; [link] I was trying to compare all of the brands but this one won me over because they have the individual colors as well so I should be able to replace as I go. They also have good reviews so I figure for the seven dollar difference between this and the other brand I was looking at I would rather have the forty extra colors, especially since I am a not a professional artist. I have read a few books on color theory and such, but I am pretty much learning through experience as I go.
I just wish they would get here today. I work the rest of the week and my boy is gone all day every day at opera camp right now and I really don't want to okay the fedex guy to leave it outside my door all day, you know?
Blick (well... FedEx) is usually quite speedy on the shipping. But waiting and worrying suck, don't they? Even if most people probably wouldn't steal art supplies, they're valuable! :< I wouldn't want it sitting out all day, either.
Watercolor pencils? I've actually never heard of those, haha. Do you start by just coloring and then use a wet brush after? Very lovely work, the medium is perfect for a pretty pokemon like Pidgeotto. You're really good at that. ^^ See, I'm not so good at watercolors. I'm going to have to paint in it soon for my school, so I'm nervous. But it's nice to see others who can pull it off.
Actually I haven't done much with the watercolor pencils yet. I don't own any brushes at all but you can draw and then brush, or put some color on a separate paper and do washes on the paper, or get the paper a little wet and use the pencil directly on the wet paper. Right now I color with pencil blended as much as possible ad then I go over it with a colorless blender marker, so I can really control the the liquid. I don't know how to use real watercolors and am very impressed by people who can!
Yes. I bought a 24 set of reeves before I moved and I really think it is a fun medium to play with. So my I got a job present to myself was a set of 120 I ordered from Blick, but they won't be here for a few more days
